The Influences on the Function and Structures of The Liver Tissue after Ligation of the Branch of Portal Vein and Simultaneous Ligation of the Branch of the Portal Vein and Proper Hepatic Artery in Rabbits

Abstract
This study was performed to investigate the effect on the function and structures of liver tissue after ligation of the right portal vein and simultaneous ligation of the right portal vein and right hepatic artery in rabbits.
The experimental rabbits were divided into 2 Groups.
Group ¥° : Ligation of the right portal vein.
Group ¥± : Simultaneous ligation of the right portal vein and right hepatic artery.
The liver function test of each groups were performed on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, l0th, 15th, 20th and 30th postoperative days respectively.
The liver of each groups were observed grossly and microscopically on the 5th, l0th, 15th, 20th and 30th postoperative days respectively.
The specimens of liver tissue were taken from the right posterior lobe, right anterior lobe and left lobe, for making comparision.
The results of this study were as follows:
1. The gross changes of mild discoloration and atrophy in the right Posterior lobe of group ¥°, and of marked atrophy, necrosis ana liver abscess in the same lobe of group ¥± were noted. Right anterior and left lobe of both group ¥° and ¥± were hypertrophied.
2. Rapid elevation of both SGOT and SGPT were noted from the 1st postoperative day in both groups, tut SGOT decreased to the level of the control group on the 5th postoperative days, and SGPT on the l0th postoperative day.
3. Alkaline phosphatase levels of Group ¥° were mildly elevated until the 10th postoperative day when it began to decrease to the level of the control group(0.010.05).
4. Serum albumin levels of both groups had been mildly lower than control group throughout the entire period of observation(P<0.01).
5. Total histopathologic changes of group ¥° were becoming remarkable during early postoperative days, then resumed gradually as the days go by. But the right posterior segment of the group ¥± was not recovered because of complete necrosis.
6. In the other lobes of liver which had intact blood flow, total histopathologic changes were becoming remarkable until about 10th to 15th postoperative days and then recovered. At that time the numbers of mitosis were increased and liver regeneration was observed. The numbers of mitosis were significantly increased from 5th to 10th postoperative day then decreased gradually (P<01).
7. The experimental animals did not expire either after the ligation of the right portal vein or simultaneous ligation of the right portal vein and right hepatic artery, Regeneration of tissue was identified in those lobes having localized necrosis and remaining intact lobe as compensatory proces.
